Woodworkers will appreciate the micro-adjustable depth stops and depth scale, the heavy-duty 3/4HP motor, the large non-tip base which increases the stability of the product and it also has a full 6” quill stroke for deeper drilling and a best-in-class capacity. A big plus is that the machine operates quietly. Easy to carry in to your shop and can be set up and running in minutes. It is also a great convenience that the table tilts forward, left and right. Many reviewers love the fact that it was easy to setup. Aside from that, the free shipping offer is a big plus for this professional-grade drill press.
There are a few minor negatives worthy of noting including that when the light that is mounted to the left side is on, the laser spot is difficult to see. This model does not have instant variable speed but in defense it is easy to change belt speeds (approximately a minute). Improvements that can be made to please the well-seasoned drill press user would be to use a 1HP motor instead of the 3/4HP and to use a larger belt drive.
Delta were always a top quality hardware manufacturer, but in recent years Delta was sold to an overseas owner and production has since moved to China. As a direct result of this, quality of manufacturing and the quality of the components used in Delta products has dropped significantly. Although overall the Delta 18-900L is a quality product and does what it is made for, it is more of an over-powered hobby drill.
