One of the first things a person interested in ESL should understand is it’s not restricted to kids from in school from the K-12 levels. It can also be adult education. It additionally involves more than just teaching someone how to read and write English. Many ESL instructors very often teach American ways, history and culture to those who just come here. They are many times their student’s first guide to American citizenship.
Another thing one must realize about ESL is English is not necessarily the instructor’s first language either.
