Rotary tables are commonly used in the manufacture of metal components. A rotary table’s purpose is to hold the metal object being shaped in place so that machining tools can shape it into the desired form. In addition a rotary table, as the name suggests, can also rotate the work piece; enabling tools to approach from many angles and thus create more complex shapes. Although a rotary table is one of the most important tools in metal component machining; its role cannot be completed without the assistance of chuck jaws. An overview
Chuck jaws are essentially the clamping mechanism that holds the metal work piece in place. They most commonly consist of three jaws that can be mounted via T-slots onto the rotary table. There are of course many different varieties that are suited for different applications. An example of such chucks jaws are bar grippers that are meant to assist in the shaping of bar-like objects.
How they are operated
In the majority of environments chuck jaws are operated using computer commands which control the clamping. However, when the work piece is of an irregular shape it is often the case that chuck jaws have to be tightened manually. By doing so the operator is able to position the jaws at variable distances from the rotary table centre. In such instances models with four jaws rather than three will be required to ensure a secure fix.

For manufacturers to continue to compete it is essential that they are able to consistently produce excellent products.
