Choosing To Renew Pass Port Online
Americans have an advantage in traveling abroad that most of our neighboring countries do not have. In the US, a passport is good for ten years. Most other countries do not have this extended period. And there is also the option to renew US passport online, providing even more convenience.
Renew Online
Knowing that you can renew in this manner should give you peace of mind. While you are in the United States and when it is due to expire, renewing is as simple as turning on a computer. This is a convenient option that is available to any American.
Ten Year Period
An undamaged book that is less than fifteen years old, your computer and a printer is all that is required to start your process. The application will need to be printed for you to sign. Imagine the satisfaction of not having to take all of your paperwork, your photos and waiting to go into the office, usually at a time that is not convenient for you.
Simple Process
You will need to fill in the DS-82, the application form, online. When you find the form, make sure it has a barcode on it. If it does not, it could slow down the process. Fill it in, print it and then make sure you sign it. Ensure that all needed information, including the date and your signature, is on the form.
New Photos
Photos are required and they must have been taken within the last six months. You will need two identical photos, either taken by yourself or a professional photographer. If you do your own, read the guidelines before hand to ensure the sizes are correct and you have the right color background.
Turn In Old Passport
You must also be able to turn into the agency your expired passport. This must have been issued within the last fifteen years and at that time, you were sixteen years of age or older. If you had a name change since it was issued, proof of the name change will be required. The book or card must also be undamaged.
Other Documents
If the travel that you have scheduled is work related, you might be asked for a letter from a superior on company letterhead. This would be stating where you are traveling and your travel dates. If it is personal, an itinerary or copy of flight information might be requested.
Fees
Along with your photos, application and book, you will need to enclose the requested fee. These are not the same everywhere so be sure you look before you choose an agency to assist you. When you send in the money, it will need to be in the form of a money order or certified check.
If you choose to renew American passport online, you will be saving yourself time and trouble. By sending in your pass port online fees, book and photos, you can receive your new one at your home. Along with the new one, your old book will be sent back to you simply by filling in your application online and paying your fees.
