There are many types of air conditioning systems and each has a different system of working. The same system cannot work for every working space. 1

In a working space, the more the heat producing bodies the more efficient cooling system would be required to maintain a cool temperature. For a smaller spaces such as rooms and very small office spaces unitary cooling systems are the best. The common wall mounted air conditioners are available in different capacities and serve well for cooling rooms where there are less heat generating bodies and appliances. 1

The split unitary air conditioning system usually consists of a cooling unit fitted on the wall at a strategic position while a condenser exchanges fresh air from the outside. For larger spaces such as commercial offices and IT offices where there are loads of computers and servers along with humans to generate heat, a quicker cooling system is required. In such a case ducted air conditioning systems or cassette systems. Both are equally efficient. For concentration of cooled air on certain preferred spot, cassette systems can be used. For even distribution of cooled air without any gradient ducted systems can be used.

These systems have massive network of components that make it an efficient system for large spaces. Ducted systems should be installed properly to ensure good quality cooling. If there are leakages or gaps in the ducts then the entire cooling will be affected.

Unlike smaller spaces, restoring cooling ambience for large spaces with massive heat producing appliances can be quite challenging. Hence, it is important to choose the right cooling system based on the needs.

For server rooms a split air conditioning would be enough. Nevertheless, if there were multiple servers, ducted or cassette system would be required. Similarly, in restaurants, cassette system works great if the ceilings are not too high. The placement of the tables can be made in such a way that each table gets a gush of fresh air at regular intervals.

For central air conditioning system, the ducted systems are the best. They can cover longer hall ways and corridors without much investment in separate cassettes. It is easy to control the temperature of ducted systems over larger area than it is with unitary or cassette.
