This private golfing course is part of the Reserva Conchal resort that accommodates the Paradisus Playa Conchal resort - of which you need to be a guest of to play this course.Playa Conchal
This is one of my favorite courses in Costa Rica. The service is fantastic, Carlos Rojas the Head Pro will treat you like a king. The staff is very well trained, courteous and goes out of the way for you to have a great round of golfing. Reserva Conchal golfing course is a Robert Trent Jones II design that has got a mixture of simple and tricky holes. What makes this course special is the mixture of rainforest and ocean scenery.
My favourite hole is the 17th hole - a mammoth 210 yard par 3 whose elevated tee box offers an impressive view of Conchal beach and the mountains in the back. That's the only'nice' thing about it - you want to hit a 200 yard windblown shot over water if you're playing the back tees. (Do not be concerned, there's a 150 yard option for us mortals.)
My opponent is the 10th hole. This dogleg par 4 looks straightforward but I was finish up in the left OB - although I teed off with an iron! Then you're left with a long iron to a green that is guarded by a deep bunker on the left, water on the left, prohibited on the left - guess where I hit it, the left. I would recommend playing in the early morning like a 6am tee time to bypass the heat at noon.
If you do not mind the heat, pick the all you can play packages that they offer. Personally I regard myself as an one round, run to the pool bar kind of person.
If you're looking at living in Guanacaste, Westin at Playa Conchal should be on top of your list. It is a mature development with a genuine golfing course that you can play today. It's also part of a beautiful resort and you'll always have things to do there. Alternate golf courses to Reserva Conchal are Hacienda Pinilla in the Tamarindo area.
Westin at Playa Conchal is a component of a bunch of top flight resorts and communities that are geared towards retirees or ex-pats in Costa Rica Flamingo Beach.
